Denver, Colo. – Lerch Bates is pleased to announce a transition in its financial leadership as Chief Financial Officer John Arther prepares to retire later this year after nearly 17 years of service to the company.

Throughout his tenure, Arther has played a pivotal role in Lerch Bates’s growth and success, both as a company and through its Employee Stock Ownership Plan, providing strategic financial leadership during a transformative period in the firm’s history. His contributions have helped guide significant expansion, strengthen the organization’s financial position and support long-term value creation for the company and its employee-owners.

Lerch Bates has selected Fred Krumbhaar as its next Chief Financial Officer. Krumbhaar joins the firm with more than 25 years of financial leadership experience, including 14 years in architecture, engineering, and consulting organizations. Most recently, he served as CFO of the Integrated Design & Advisory business at Michael Baker International, a leading engineering and consulting firm.

Prior to Michael Baker International, Krumbhaar held leadership positions with Stantec and MWH, where he led financial planning and analysis and was the CFO for a major business unit. His extensive experience supporting growth-oriented organizations and integrating complex operations makes him well-positioned to help guide Lerch Bates through its next chapter as a growing multidisciplinary building consulting firm.

Krumbhaar joined Lerch Bates in July and will work alongside Arther during a planned transition period to ensure continuity and a seamless transfer of responsibilities. This collaborative approach reflects the company’s commitment to maintaining strong financial stewardship while positioning the organization for future growth.

“John’s impact on Lerch Bates over the past 17 years cannot be overstated,” said CEO Eric Rupe. “His vision, guidance, and dedication have helped shape the firm into the organization it is today. We are grateful for his many contributions and excited to welcome Fred, whose experience and leadership will help drive continued success for our clients, partners, and employee-owners.”

Lerch Bates extends its sincere appreciation to John Arther for his remarkable career and lasting legacy, while welcoming Fred Krumbhaar as the firm’s next Chief Financial Officer.
