Lerch Bates Experts to Present at Zak World of Façades Dallas 2026
Lerch Bates is proud to have two employee-owners presenting at Zak World of Façades Dallas on September 17, sharing insights from projects that showcase the intersection of architectural vision, building performance, and real-world lessons learned.
As the building industry continues to push the boundaries of design, sustainability, and occupant experience, façade systems remain one of the most influential components of building performance. At this year’s event, Chris O’Hara and Matt Mittlestet will join industry partners to discuss how thoughtful façade design, testing, and execution contribute to successful project outcomes.
Architecture of Place Through Material and Technology
Chris O’Hara will present alongside Will Ramhold of Marlon Blackwell Architects in a session titled: “An Architecture of Place Through Material and Technology: Heartland Whole Health Institute.”
The presentation will explore how façade design can do far more than create a striking exterior. Using the Heartland Whole Health Institute as a case study, Chris and Will will discuss how the building envelope establishes identity while supporting performance goals and enhancing the occupant experience.
Attendees will learn how the project combines regionally rooted materials with advanced fabrication technologies to create an architecture that is deeply connected to its place while maintaining broader relevance. The session will also examine how façade design contributes to daylighting, spatial quality, and interior comfort, helping reinforce the Institute’s mission of promoting whole health and wellness.
Lessons Learned Through Façade Testing
Matt Mittlestet will present alongside Trey Greer of Fitzpatrick Architects in a session titled: “Smith County Courthouse: An Interplay of Façade Materials and Lessons Learned in Field Testing.”
Drawing from project experience, Matt and Trey will discuss the critical role façade testing plays in managing risk and ensuring long-term building performance.
The session will highlight the importance of elevating testing requirements when project changes occur, clearly defining air and water testing parameters early in the process, and adopting a proactive approach to potential test failures. By planning for challenges before they arise, project teams can strengthen resilience, improve collaboration, and help ensure successful outcomes.
