Studio NYL Adopts New Name: studio|LB
Same people, bigger platform, more capabilities. Studio NYL officially takes the studio|LB name on Nov. 15, 2026.
Lerch Bates, a global leader in technical consulting for the Built Environment, announced today that Studio NYL will officially become studio|LB on Nov. 15, 2026. The change completes the integration that began when Lerch Bates acquired Studio NYL in Dec. 2025.
Studio NYL is a Denver-based structural engineering and façade design firm founded in 2004 by Chris O’Hara and Julian Lineham. It is known for its inventive approach to structures and enclosures and has worked with leading architects around the world on award-winning projects. Since May 2026, the team has worked alongside Lerch Bates’s architecture services group as studio|LB, a design-forward group within Lerch Bates. On Nov. 15, the Studio NYL name will be retired and the team will work only as studio|LB.
The Bottom Line for Clients
Clients will work with the same people, now backed by a larger team. The engineers and designers clients know from Studio NYL will continue leading their projects, now with access to Lerch Bates’s growing team of nearly 500 employee-owners around the globe.
“We saw that Lerch Bates is a company that’s the best in the world with elevators, best in the world with façade access, and we want to be the best in the world,” said Chris O’Hara. “Now, we have a huge pool of talent to help us. There are more than 100 PEs in the firm to service the structural side. There are more than 120 façade designers with all different specialties and diverse talent that we can deploy for architects. It’s an incredible opportunity for us, and for our clients.”
Studio NYL clients will now have access to Lerch Bates’s 20+ technical consulting services and expanded operational support in areas like project management and accounting, as well as new technology and software capabilities.
Why the Change
After being acquired by Lerch Bates in 2025, the Studio NYL and Lerch Bates architectural services teams spent many months listening, learning and adopting best practices from each group. In May, the two organizations launched studio|LB, pairing the creativity of Studio NYL and the technical expertise of Lerch Bates. Now, it’s time to complete the integration and move into the next chapter together as studio|LB – a division of Lerch Bates dedicated to architects.
Maintaining What Makes Studio NYL Unique
While Studio NYL’s capabilities are growing and its name is changing, the team’s commitment to innovation, creativity and client service remains unchanged.
“The relationships we have built with architects, owners, developers, and contractors continue to be at the center of everything we do,” said Julian Lineham. “Clients will continue working with the teams they know and trust, while gaining access to additional resources and expertise that can help elevate project outcomes.”
“The culture of curiosity and problem-solving that has defined Studio NYL is strongly aligned with Lerch Bates’s mission of improving the performance of buildings and the experience of the people who use them,” said Jeff Marsh. “We are creating a platform that empowers our teams to think bigger, collaborate more broadly and deliver even greater value – together as studio|LB.”
