Lerch Bates Europe Limited have recently completed the modernisation of 36 lifts at Barclays Bank Headquarters, situated in Canary Wharf London. The 39-story building stands at 156 meters and was opened formally in 2005, merging Barclays offices across London.
Greg Harris, Technical Director of Lerch Bates Europe, led this project beginning in 2012 with a Building Flow™ traffic analysis to determine the best method to increase passenger movements within Barclays HQ. This analysis led Lerch Bates to increase the speed and introduce Destination Control in lieu of group directional collective control for the building’s low, medium and high-rise passenger lifts. This Destination Control feature allowed for Lerch Bates to carry out modernisation upgrades with limited impact on building occupancy. It also ensured that group control was maintained when the modernised lifts re-entered service in the building.
The relationship between Lerch Bates Europe and Barclays has continued since this project, with new orders to replace two escalators, window cleaning cradles and upgrade the building’s lift monitoring system.
