Lerch Bates congratulates Lamar A. Johnson, FAIA, LEED AP, on being named the recipient of the 2026 AIA Chicago Lifetime Achievement Award, one of the organization’s highest honors. Johnson will be recognized at Designight 2026 for a career that has left a lasting impact on Chicago’s built environment and the architectural profession.
As the founding partner of Lamar Johnson Collaborative (LJC) and former Managing Principal of Gensler Chicago, Johnson has helped shape some of the region’s most influential projects while championing mentorship, diversity, and community engagement throughout his career. Lerch Bates is proud to have worked on several projects alongside LJC including One Fulton Market, 35 E Wacker Dr and Lurie Children’s Hospital.
His legacy extends far beyond the buildings and spaces he has helped create. Through his commitment to people, collaboration, and civic responsibility, Johnson has made a meaningful impact on Chicago and on the profession as a whole.
