On Sept. 18, the architecture and design community gathered on the shores of the Hudson River for the 25th anniversary of the annual New York Architects’ Regatta—a spirited celebration of creativity, collaboration and community impact—ultimately raising more than $215,000 for local NYC charities.
While Lerch Bates has participated in prior years, 2025 marked the first time an all-LB boat entry joined the competition with tom unsinn, Senior VT Consultant; Erik Walther, Senior Market Development Consultant; Anthony Campione, Associate Consultant and Caitlyn Nekich, Project Manger; competing in the J-80 class.
But the Regatta is more than a race. Since its founding in the early 1990s, the event has united architects, engineers and designers to raise funds for nonprofits that champion waterfront access, environmental stewardship, and STEMeducation opportunities. The event begins with an evening in the historic Model Room of the New York Yacht Club for the
annual pre-race Skippers’ Meeting the night before the race and culminates with the disbursement of funds to multiple charities throughout the city. In 2025, the Regatta exceeded its fundraising goal, raising over $215,000 to support organizations including:
Despite low winds on race day, the energy was high. Teams competed in J-24 and J-80 classes, navigating the Hudson with strategy, skill, and a healthy dose of good-natured rivalry.
At the post-race celebration, Lerch Bates CEO eric rupe captured the spirit of the day:
“The New York Architects’ Regatta is a vibrant blend of architecture, sailing and community support that encapsulates Lerch Bates’s core values with a spirit of friendly competition and fun all for a good cause. We love being here with our architecture partners each year as a sponsor, and especially this year as one of the sailing teams. Congrats to all the participants and THANK YOU to all the philanthropies involved for carrying out your impactful work – that’s the real reason we’re all here today.”
